Hi folks! My name is Gursehaj 👋. I’m a 15 y/o innovator and researcher in Calgary, interested in how to leverage machine learning to make a real world impact. This newsletter will be a recap of all the exciting things that happened this month and insights I’ve gained that I think will add value to you.
Google Challenge 👨🏽💻
This month, I had the opportunity to work alongside Google on this challenge statement: “How can Google keep its employees informed to use an ever-expanding product portfolio?”
This might seem confusing at first, but let me break it down for you.
Google is experiencing a period of unprecedented challenge from rivals like OpenAI and Microsoft. In response, they are getting tighter than ever on their core products, ensuring that their competitors don’t disrupt their history of success. As they begin to commercialize new products like Bard and other AI-based tools, they need to re-learn how to allow their internal teams to maintain an edge by using these products themselves.
And that’s where me, and a thousand other innovators, were tasked to create a potential solution. In the end, we had to submit a recommendation deck and a short explanatory video going through our solution.

So my solution? A “for you” section in their ConnectSales platform that recommends relevant products tailored to the employee’s needs and responsibilities. ConnectSales is currently the unifying platform for Google’s sales and marketing employees to explore all products, making it the ideal place to implement and deliver personalized content. We prototyped a “for you” section in the existing platform, allowing for relevant recommendations to reach the right sales employee.
Here’s the demo I made.
Sample slides from my recommendation deck.
Short video going over the solution and deck.
Here’s what I learned from the challenge:
Digit Recognition System 🔢
I trained an AI model to classify handwritten digits from 0 - 9 and got over 97% accuracy. Check out this article I wrote with all the details and code.
Next Steps 🚶♂️
Next two months, I aim to:
Finish my fast.ai deep learning course
Apply the knowledge from the course to replicate a machine learning project (will be decided soon).
Touch-ups to my personal website, gursehaj.com
Have productive meetings with industry experts in my field
Consistent studying for school final exams
